A Google Business Profile that brings customers
For a local business, your free Google listing often gets seen more than your website. Set it up right and keep it alive.
When someone searches "bengkel terdekat" or "catering Jakarta Selatan", Google shows a map with three businesses before any website. That map block is powered by Google Business Profile (GBP), a free listing you control. For most local businesses it is the single highest-leverage marketing asset, and most owners leave it half empty.
How Google ranks local results
Google documents three factors: relevance (how well your profile matches the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher), and prominence (how well known your business is, including reviews). You cannot move your shop, so you compete on the other two: complete, accurate data for relevance, and reviews plus activity for prominence.
Complete the profile honestly
- Exact business name, no keyword stuffing (it violates the rules and risks suspension).
- The right primary category, plus accurate secondary categories.
- Hours including holidays; wrong hours create angry one-star reviews.
- Real photos: storefront, inside, products, team. Profiles with photos get more requests.
- Services or menu with honest prices where possible, and a plain description.
Reviews are the engine
Ask for a review after every happy transaction, ideally with a direct link, and reply to every review including the negative ones, calmly and specifically. Never buy fake reviews: it risks suspension, and customers can smell it. A steady stream of real reviews beats a burst of suspicious ones.

Post a short update weekly (promo, new item, finished project), seed the Q&A with your real frequently asked questions, and only turn on messaging if you will answer fast. Then watch the performance tab: calls, direction requests, and website clicks are your scoreboard, and they should trend up as the profile fills out.
What you take away
- Local ranking = relevance, distance, prominence; you control two of the three
- Complete the profile honestly: categories, hours, real photos, no keyword stuffing
- Ask for reviews after happy transactions and reply to all of them
- Post weekly and track calls and direction requests as your scoreboard
