Local SEO basics that actually move the needle
How search actually works, the few on-page basics that matter, and the shortcuts that quietly hurt you.
Search engines do three things: crawl your pages, index what they find, and rank it against a query. You influence all three by being easy to crawl, genuinely relevant, and trusted. Everything in SEO is a variation of those, and most of what is sold as secret tricks is noise.
Two places to appear
For local searches there are two surfaces: the map pack (driven mostly by your Google Business Profile, previous lesson) and the organic results (driven by your website). They are ranked by different systems, so a strong GBP does not fix a weak site, and vice versa. Work both.
On-page basics that matter
- One page per service, with a clear title that says what and where ("Sewa Tenda Pesta Jakarta Selatan").
- A meta description that earns the click: what you do, for whom, why you.
- Headings that mirror how customers ask, not internal jargon.
- Fast and mobile-first; most Indonesian traffic is on phones.
- Your name, address, and phone consistent everywhere (site, GBP, directories, socials).
Content that earns rankings
Write pages that answer what customers actually ask: price ranges, comparisons, how long things take, what can go wrong. One honest, useful page beats ten thin ones. Avoid mass-producing near-identical city pages with swapped names: Google's spam policies target exactly that pattern, and at best those pages get ignored.
What to skip
Skip bought backlinks, keyword stuffing, and anyone promising page one in a week. SEO compounds over months, which is exactly why it is defensible: the work you do honestly keeps paying while shortcuts decay or get penalized.
What you take away
- Search = crawl, index, rank; be crawlable, relevant, and trusted
- Map pack and organic are separate systems; work your GBP and your site
- One clear page per service, fast and mobile, with consistent name-address-phone
- Honest useful content compounds; doorway pages and bought links decay
